The “Green Learning Visit in Germany” took place from the 14.-19. July 2014 in Berlin and the neighboring region  Brandenburg. The GIZ ProGED program in the Philippines has initiated and funded this Study Tour in order to promote green economic development initiatives in the Philippines jointly with project partners. The visit was organized and facilitated by the German consultancy Mesopartner.

The overall goal of the visit was to better understand the German system in the promotion of Green Economic Development (GED) including the interrelations between targeted policies, relevant R&D institutions, support programs and competitive businesses (see “Green Systemic Competitiveness” graphic).

The visit pursued further objectives:

  • Better understanding green innovations, technology and the supporting framework conditions in Germany
  • Discovering the link between industry and the academy in green innovation and technology generation and dissemination
  • Looking at the enabling framework conditions that support the shift to a Green Economy, especially with regard to the inclusion of SMEs.
  • Witnessing concrete examples of “Greening”  everyday life in Germany
  • Understanding the business case of “Going Green” in the German context
  • Learning about Germany’s pioneering role in renewable energy production, consumption and the actual status of its promotion
  • Enabling the participants to better understand and appreciate how innovation and green technologies can support green economic development strategies, including climate change mitigation and adaptation efforts.
